About Oldham Credit Union
Oldham Credit Union is one of the vanguard of “New Model” Credit Unions. Unlike older credit unions it is not restricted to one employer or a small geographic area but covers anyone who lives or works in the Borough of Oldham including the surrounding towns of Chadderton, Failsworth, Shaw, Royton and Saddleworth.
It has a valued link with Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council but also has agreements with other organisation and companies to provide services too their employees. These agreements have allowed the Credit Union to access payroll deduction for its members making a safe easy way to both save and borrow.
The most recent addition to the valued list of employers is Oldham Primary Care Trust where members will be able have payroll deduction later this spring.
With its roots firmly in the community the Credit Union is justifiably proud of the ten community collection points established throughout the Town making it user friendly for those not able to easily access its Town centre offices.
For the first time this has meant many local residents have an easy route to saving and loans which are insured, free of charge, providing life cover for its members.
Registered with the Financial Services Authority in summer 2002 it has made remarkable progress recruiting hundreds of members throughout its area and achieving the status of being a Direct Debit initiator with the banking sector.
This is due in no small part to a well qualified volunteer Board of Directors all of whom have achieved Approved Person status with the Financial Services Authority, who provide help and guidance to a full time paid staff.
The vision of the Board of Directors is a strong local financial institution providing a full range of services to the entire Borough of Oldham owned and controlled by local people for local people whatever their status.
